different men and women have been thought of, talked
about, written about and memorialized as representing
the heroic values in Irish society. Such heroes
have been drawn from many disparate areas of Irish
life, such as the military, politics, literature and
sport.
This
conference is bringing together experts from across

College), Professor Richard Holt (De Montfort University),
Maria Moynihan (Chief Executive, St Patricks
Festival), Sighle Bhreathnach-Lynch (Curator of Irish
Paintings, National Gallery of Ireland) and Professor
Dáithí Ó Hógáin
(University College, Dublin).
