The Blanket - A Journal of Protest & Dissent

Save the Hill of Tara

Seaghán Ó Murchú • 2 April 2004

I urge readers to sing the online petition found at PetitionOnline: http://www.PetitionOnline.com/hilltara/. This urges Bertie Ahern to intervene to stop An Bord Pleanalta from going forward with plans for an M3 upgrade to the N3 road that will save commuting time for drivers from Meath into Dublin at the expense of one of Ireland’s most fabled sites. More information can be found at this site: http://taraskryne.org.

This introductory essay, by Diarmuid Doyle, was posted on the Modern Antiquarian site founded by activist/musician Julian Cope, as an extension of his massive gazetteer of the same name (London: HarperCollins—Thorsons, 1998) on over 300 British prehistoric megalithic sites. The on-line site serves as an ongoing repository of images, folklore, news, and visits by those concerned with ancient locations throughout Britain and now Ireland. These databases can be accessed via http://themodernantiquarian.com.

All censorships exist to prevent any one from challenging current conceptions and existing institutions. All progress is initiated by challenging current conceptions, and executed by supplanting existing institutions. Consequently the first condition of progress is the removal of censorships.
- George Bernard Shaw
